The 2nd Finnish Film Affair 2013 in Helsinki during HIFF

The Finnish Film Affair is a new initiative of the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy showcasing the latest Finnish feature films to international industry professionals. The first edition of the Finnish Film Affair took place in September 2012.

The second Finnish Film Affair will be held from the 24th to 26th September 2013. Attending sales agents, distributors, TV buyers, festival programmers and representatives of the press have an opportunity to get to know to the latest Finnish feature films and documentaries.

The programming focus will be put on about 30 titles of some of the most exiting latest and upcoming films with a wide range of genres. In addition the film export association FAVEX will host a works in progress showcase presenting about ten productions in development. The line-up of projects will be announced mid-August. Besides the Finnish titles, the participants have a chance to see recent Russian, Estonian and Nordic films featured in the festival programme.

The industry program will also include networking events and panels aimed at feature film producers. This year the focus of the panels will be on examining the collaboration possibilities with the Russian film industry. The industry panel ”Rare Exports: Opportunities for Finnish-Russian Coproductions” will be moderated by Nick Holdsworth, correspondent for Hollywood Reporter.

Approximately 200 film industry professionals from Finland and abroad are expected to attend.

Finland produces an average of about 30 feature films a year. The local share of the box office was a record 28% in 2012 and is now exceptionally high, the total for 2013 being 40% to date.

The Helsinki International Film Festival has a steady position as the largest film festival in Finland. The 25th edition of the festival in 2012 achieved a record-breaking attendance of over 57 500 admissions. The festival programme consists of about 160 feature films and 140 short films from all over the world in 450 screenings on 15 screens.

The Finnish Film Affair is an initiative of the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy organized with partners such as Favex – the Finnish Film & Audiovisual Export, the Finnish Film Foundation, Media Desk Finland, the Central Organisation of Finnish Film Producers SEK, Finland Film Commission and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
