In memory of Hungarian master director Miklós Jancsó († January 31, 2014), the Berlinale is showing his contribution to the anthology film Magyarország 2011 (Hungary 2011) beginning February 6, 2014, online at www.berlinale.de.

Miklós Jancsó, an exponent of “New Wave” cinema, developed his own recognisable personal style and cinematic signature. The Berlinale had close ties to him as he had participated in various sections over the years. His film L'aube (Dawn) ran in the Competition in 1986; Panorama presented A zsarnok szive (The Tyrant’s Heart) in 1982, and Isten hátrafelé megy (God Goes Backwards) in 1991. Forum screened Kövek üzenete (Message of the Stones) in 1995, and Nekem lámpást adott a kezembe az ur pesten (The Lord’s Lantern in Budapest) in 1999.

Miklós Jancsó and his films were also frequent guests of the Berlinale Retrospective. His most recent work, a short film from the anthology film Magyarország 2011 (Hungary 2011) screened at the Berlinale in 2012.
