11th March 2013, London, UK: The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) today announced that it will present the first complete retrospective of the highly admired New York-based production company, Borderline Films during its 48th edition which runs June 28 – July 6th.  The trio of friends that make up Borderline; Antonio Campos, Sean Durkin and Josh Mond, are one of the most innovative and respected groups of independent filmmakers and their movies, such as the highly acclaimed MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, have won numerous awards.

Borderline Films: The First Ten Years”  will commence with a screening of the first Borderline production, the short BUY IT NOW (2005), for which Antonio Campos took first prize at the Cinéfondation at the Cannes Film Festival.

His feature debut, AFTERSCHOOL, was presented at the same festival three years later in the prestigious Un certain regard section.  The award-winning AFTERSCHOOL was also shown at the New York Film Festival, Berlin and SXSW.

These admirers of European film have had six films premiere in Cannes, including Campos’ ‘follow-up to BUY IT NOW, the short THE LAST 15 (2007), which screened in competition.  The Directors’ Fortnight screened the lyrical movie TWO GATES OF SLEEP (2010), which Borderline Films produced for fellow director Alistair Banks Griffin and Durkin’s short MARY LAST SEEN (2010), which was awarded its top prize. A year later his feature debut MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE garnered exceptional success in Un Certain Regard and was awarded the Youth Prize, following up a Best Director award at Sundance six months earlier.

MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, a film that was gestated through the prestigious Sundance director’s lab, was also shown at the Toronto and New York Film Festival and was released theatrically around the world to critical acclaim and many accolades including the Next Generation award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

During the shooting of MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, Campos wrote the script for his second film, SIMON KILLER, one of the most intriguing movies from 2011, which premiered in competition at Sundance.  SIMON KILLER, made in conjunction with FilmHaven, opens theatrically in North American April 5th, distributed by IFC Films.

The retrospective will also include a "carte blanche" screening where Campos, Durkin and Mond will each select one of their favorite non-Borderline produced films to be screened at the Festival.  The trio will also teach a master class at the festival and be accompanied by a number of actors and fixed members of their crew.

KVIFF’s Artistic Director Karel Och said: "We are very excited to share our deep appreciation of the work of Antonio, Sean and Josh with our festival audience. Karlovy Vary International Film Festival thrives on screening the best of unique, independent filmmaking from around the world and we’re honoured to welcome these true auteurs to our 48th Edition.“

Campos, Durkin and Mond said in a joint statement: "We are truly humbled by this honor.  As a company, we have spent the past 10 years making films we believe in and working with the people we love. We never stop creating and moving forward, but we are excited to take this week in Karlovy Vary to look back on the work with many of our collaborators/ extended family and to share the films with a new audience."
